I placed my order last night, scheduled to get it via Amazon on Tuesday.

I decided on the D40X with the 18-135mm lens. It looks like I got a good price, $830 with next day shipping. I really wanted to buy locally, and would have done so if the pricing were close, but the closest I could get to this was $929 plus the tax.

I want to thank everyone here who helped me with my decision. Your input was very valuable. I spent about a month looking into this, asking questions etc. I am extremely excited to start to learn how to use the camera!!!

Looking forward to being a contributor in the picture of the day thread!!

Thanks again for all of your help.:D

I'm sure you'll love your new camera - I know I love my Rebel XT...even if I'm still a major n00b at photography. :eek::D

When I bought my camera, I too wanted to buy local from a Mom & Pop shop, but B&H offered the camera for over $150 less...that's just too much money.

Congrats. The D40X is my 3rd favorite camera

1. D80
2. K10D(now k20d)
3.D40X
4. K100D (now k200d)

I am going to be getting the k200d though, just because the price is right, and I have several pentax lenses all ready.

D60 has been leaked.

  • Integrated dust reduction and image sensor cleaning
  • New battery
  • EXPEED DSP (I assume this is similar to Canon's DIGIC) for improved color and details

Based on these info, which could be wrong, it's more or less the same camera otherwise.

And probably not available for a while. Better to have basically the same camera now and start shooting. Enjoy!

Ships in February with new 18-55mm VR lens. Will retail for less than D40X that it replaces.

Ahhhh, in my hands as I type (well not literally).

Question about the lens hood that came with the 18-135 lens. Is this a necessity, a protective cover, or something to shade the lens (or all of the above?) It adds quite a bit of bulk.

Just waiting for the battery to charge before beginning the learning curve!!!

Congrats

I also just got a D40x. I got it with the VR 18-200 which is lots of fun. Also just got a Sigma 18-55 which is a bit smaller, lighter and faster (and does passable macro).

Hope you enjoy yours as much as I am enjoying mine.
