I downloaded 7.4.1 and like everyone else my 'free' ringtones don't work. ok.

However, with the new update I also don't see the 'legitimate' way to make my songs my ringtones as demonstrated by Steve Jobs.

Did MacRumors get it wrong? I wonder if this was only a way to stop us from making free ringtones instead of providing the legit way of making ringtones.

I don't see any of the bells next to any of my songs nor any of the songs in iTunes Music Store and I went to the one song I knew would work .... RESPECT, something Apple isn't showing us very much of with this update I might add.

Somebody let me know if I am right or wrong.

Thanks

Did you not watch the keynote/read the news? Ringtone functionality won't be available till next week according to Steve.

I did watch the keynote, however, in the posting on MacRumors front page it specifically says the following:

Now available via Software Update:
With iTunes 7.4, sync your favorite music and more with the new iPod nano (third generation), iPod classic, and iPod touch, plus create custom ringtones exclusively for iPhone with many of your favorite songs purchased from the iTunes Store. You can now also play purchased videos with closed captioning (when available), easily rate your favorite albums from one to five stars, and watch videos at a larger size inside the iTunes window.

You don't have to get snippy, just respond nice and easy there.

That's correct. This version of iTunes will allow users to create ringtones once Apple throws the switch.

Geez, you need to get out more. First, the above iTunes synopsis is the description provided by APPLE, not MacRumors. They did not make that little snipet up.

As stated, functionality will be up next week.

edit: Oh any look what popped up in my Software Update:

Also, your "free" ringtones don't work because you have 7.4.1 and not 7.4. In the .1 update, they broke the free ringtone method. But hey *whisper* Go to your ringtones folder inside your iTunes Music folder and change the ".m4r" extension you made back to ".m4a" and they should work. :)
