I just updated my 2018 Mac Mini Pro to Monterey and all of my non-apple bluetooth devices disappeared. I re-paired them all but I can't get the Sixaxis controller to connect. I never had trouble pairing it with Big Sur. When I try to connect, after a long time an unnamed device with a gamepad icon will show up in the list but when I click connect the controller will time out before it completes.
For comparison, my XBone controller paired quickly and without any trouble. Apple's support page only lists instructions on how to connect a ps4 or ps5 controller. Could there be a missing driver?

This seems to be the case for me too. They have added some kind of configuration options in the bluetooth menu for other supported controllers, but in doing so decided to just cut PS3 controller support completely. When plugged in over USB it will recognise the connection as being a PS3 controller in the app "Controllers Lite" but it won't recognise any inputs.

Shame now I have to add more ewaste by replacing my four dual shock 3 controllers which worked perfectly fine!

Just updated my Mac mini M1 to Monterey, now my DS4 controller won't register any button on any games.
The controller is recognized in bluetooth settings, but it just won't do anything when I press any button on any games.
It's been fine on Big Sur.

I was able to solve this thanks to a user on Apple forum, here are the steps:
1. Go to system settings, Sharing settings, turn off AirPlay Receiver
2. Go to bluetooth settings, remove previously registered controller
3. Reconnect controller

This also solve other bluetooth connection related issues such as stuttering wireless headphone audio.

I used to have a Logitech Ramblepad 2 controller to play openemu games on my intel based mac and I was really satisfied with it. Unfortunately it broke a few months ago and since then I’ve been using my PS3 DualShock controller. However since I upgraded to Mac OS Monterey I found out that apple dropped support for DualShock 3 so my ps3 controller doesn’t work anymore. I wanted to repurchase the ramblepad 2 from Logitech but I just spoke to their support and they informed me that none of their controllers work with Monterey! I saw In some YouTube videos some people use an Xbox controller but I prefer the form factor of a PlayStation controller however they are quite pricey. Anyone can suggest any gaming controller similar to PlayStation that works well with Monterey?

Dual Shock 4 works well.

I confirm that it works too on arm64, wired. If you are paranoïd, you can recompile the binary this way:

gcc -framework CoreFoundation -framework IOKit ds3activate.c -o ds3activate

Hi. I have a PS3 Controller. Will it work if I follow your steps and turn off AirPlay Receiver and then reconnect again? I will be using Dolphin Emulator to play Mario Sunshine. Thanks

I really don't know since I don't have PS3 controller.
But my PS4 controller has been working fine since Monterey's few updates since then. No need to turning off AirPlay Receiver.

Do you have Steam installed or running? I was having issues where Steam's controller configuration was intercepting controller inputs and not passing them to games, even ones downloaded and launched from their service.

Try going to Big Picture —> Settings —> Controller Settings and see if enabling/disabling their configuration support for your controller helps.

The client has been updated a few times since I last messed with it so maybe something has been broken and or fixed and or re-broken.

My amazon luna controller does not pair ether. Bluetooth in big sur was fine but monterey is messed up. I even tried installing big sur last night on an external. Bluetooth was fine. My controller paired. I installed Monterey on top of that. All my folders and such stayed. But bluetooth list was gone. No devices listed in system preferences. It erased all my other devices. Coppying bluetooth plist from big sur does not help either.
