Did my iPad just log into my email account without my permission?

I don't recall setting up my Mail account settings on my iPad,
but the iPad seems to initially attempt to log on using my apple account ID (email address) and apple account password when I enter the Mail App.

Can anyone confirm this? It just feels a bit... shady.
It would be a real hoot if websites that used email address as IDs automatically attempted to log on to your email account using the same password, all in the name of 'user friendliness'.

Did you set it to sync mail settings in iTunes?

if you use Apple Mail on your mac, then when you sync your iPad, it should automatically sync that account to your iPod. Same thing happened to me when I plugged in my iPhone 3G for the first time.
