Didn't have any problems with my sound till I installed Windows 8 and now my sound in both OSX/8 are not working. It worked a short while after installing drivers in 8 then stopped working, booted to OSX and it worked. Now it's not working in OSX either. Looks like it's not showing up in the system profiler too?

I have it hooked up with the audio out port in the back to Logictech speakers. Internal sound is not working either.

Did a reboot in OSX and now my sound is back. Is this a sign that the sound board is starting to take a crap?

Mac pro 4,1 10.8 mountain lion and windows 8.

I to to peers and select line out and I still get no sound output. Not even my internal speaker.

I believe the rear audio out port took a crap and now it took everything out. The front port won't work either now since the hardware is no longer showing up.

Can't figure out how this could have happen, the Mac Pro never moves. :(

Zap the pram bro!
Does a restart of coreaudio fix it when it is happening?
Open Terminal and type:
sudo killall coreaudiod

Enter password watch the magic.
Or if that fails to find it:
sudo kill -9 `ps ax|grep 'coreaudio[a-z]' |awk '{print $1}'`
Enter password watch the magic.
