I've never used AirPods before and didn't expect to like them. Despite what people may think I can hear the difference in compressed vs. lossless audio and as such I mainly listen to music on studio monitors or mixing headphones.
My dad let me borrow his 2nd-gen AirPods last weekend while I fixed my car's stereo system. I found the wireless aspect unexpectedly appealing. It's nice to be able to bring the sound right to my ears without having cables dangling around to get yanked. The portability is excellent, no tangling, and the auto-switching is super handy.
So today I went and bought myself a set of 3rd-gens. The controls are SO much better than the 2nd-gens and the sound quality is remarkable for these tiny little things. The "Spatialize Stereo" function adds an extra bit of fun to the sound that makes the compressed audio much more tolerable.
Seeing as it's entirely impractical to lug around my Kali monitors or even just my KRK mixing headphones, these will be a permanent part of my pocket carry.
Well done Apple.
