I know there was a 2.13ghz model & now the highest is 1.86...could someone explain this please. thank you

No, the 2.13GHz model is still available in the 'Customize' screen. The BTO options come with the 1.86GHz. Only the 256GB model has the option available (it is referred to in this forum as the 'MBA Ultimate' model).

^ that's actually not the case. I have a 13" 2.13GHz sitting right in front of me.

The base 13" models are 1.86GHz. That said, if you click on the 256GB model, you will get to the customization screen where you can add the 2.13GHz Core 2 Duo for an extra $100. It is not available on the 128GB model, though.

That said, even the 1.86GHz model should outperform the older 2.13GHz model in everyday tasks because the integrated GPU and SSD are faster, and the chassis does a better job of venting heat so the processor doesn't throttle down as much.
