iPod touch did they ever make an ipod touch 3g with an 8 gb capacity

my friend says they did and that this is a stupid question but i looked all over and couldnt find a third gen ipod touch 8gb what do you think. oh and did they ever make a protoype 8gb

No, only 32gb and 64gb models are iPod Touch 3G. The 8Gb have 2G internals. They probably did make many prototypes.

The so called 3rd gen 8GB ipod touch is actually a 2nd generation ipod touch. I bought one of those and realized that i can't get 4.2.1 or higher

Yes. When Apple refreshed the iPod Touches, they only bothered to make third generation iPod Touches with 32 and 64 GB capacities. Leaving the 8 GB iPod Touch being a Second Generation with the updated (MC model). When they refreshed the iPod Touches last year, they decided to make an 8 GB, 32 and 64 GB model, not having any of last year's models anymore.
