i was just thinking, with all the cool features the iPhone has it seems like alot of people are forgetting the "iPod" feature of the phone. i mean isnt that the reason people pushed Apple to make a phone. so that they can have a cell phone that holds more than 20 songs? Everybody is so caught up in the other features that i think that we forget that this the only cell phone that can hold 2,000 plus songs on it.

I didn't forget. The only reason that I wanted the iPhone in January was because I saw it as a touch screen iPod with the ability to make phone calls. To me, all the other features are just the icing on an expensive cake.
ya but come on people, how songs do you really have? and even of those how many do you actually listen too? i mean i know there are a few people out there who have a ton of songs and listen to a lot of them, but from what i have seen, many people have a ridiculous number of songs but listen to just a handful of them. and even then you can make playlists with your favorites, i mean 50 GB sounds a little crazy to me

I think most people could get by with 8GB as well. But some people (like me) enjoy the large capacity iPods so that its possible to store all their music without having to waste HD space on their laptops. have 60+ GB of music, and its nice to know that its just all in one place.... portable, and listenable/broadcastable at anytime. If a touchscreen iPod came out with 100GB of HDD storage, I'd be torn on getting that over an iPhone. Extra storage is always welcome.
Space shouldn't be a problem as the nano is easily the best-selling iPod out there (at least in retail stores). At that, the 2gb version is sold the most out of all of them. Sure for "power" users like us we want something more, but a few GB's should definitely get the job done. It's not like we can't sync different songs back on it by hooking it up to the computer.
I'm trying to pick out what music I want to have on my phone right now, and it's hard to figure out what I really want and get it under 8 gigs.
Using Smart Playlists and ratings, it is real easy to get a music library on 8GB (which is what my iPod nano has). When you figure out how to use the power of Smart Playlists, it is incredibly fun to listen to music, especially when you are guaranteed fresh music thanks to the 8GB limit.
Right now I have several Smart Playlists and regular playlists that fill my iPod nano. An example: I have a "Mix" smart playlist that takes ~50 from my 5 Star, 4 Star, and 3 Star playlists that I haven't played in 2 weeks. I have a couple random genre related smart playlists and a couple "greatest hits" (4 star or higher) playlists for some of my favorite bands. I also have a regular playlist that is called "Listen List", which is where I throw albums that I have been listening to lately onto.
I should put a disclaimer that doing a little work to configure the smart playlists is required. Once done, it is amazing how seamless it is and what music you discover on that all important mix playlist.

I've got all the artists picked out that I want, now I'm just going through and getting rid of any CDs that I barely ever listen to, live sets, EPs and stuff from these artists to get it down to around 6-7 gigs, I want to leave at least some room for pictures and stuff.
hopefully by the time it is available in oz, there will be higher capacity versions, because I need at least 10gb for my music and videos.
