Interesting trick. Could be useful, although I generally just shut the "lid". :p

That's how I normally sleep my Macs. On my iMac it causes an interesting problem though. Often the machine goes to sleep so fast that the keys are still down when it goes to sleep. When I wake it back up, it still thinks the command or option key (or both) is down causing weird things to happen when using the mouse. Easy to clear up by hitting a key on the keyboard. It never does that if I use the power button or the Sleep entry in the Apple menu instead of the keyboard shortcut.

I read that tip on Apple.com, too, and I was surprised I'd never heard of it. Sure nice, though--keeps me from having to bend down to push the button on my tower on the floor.

I've put my Mac to sleep maybe three times in three years...

Is it something I should be doing....??
If you have no reason to have it running 24X7 and like saving power, yes. Otherwise, I suppose not.

Unless you meant that you were turning it off instead. That saves a *little* more energy, but takes time to restart and reopen your apps, so it may not be the most efficient way of working.

All I have to do is to press my "power button" on my Sawtooth, and it goes to deep sleep just as fast, without the need of pressing extra buttons. Oh, be sure to enable the option in system preference tho.

I have the same problem here.

Instead of holding down the combination as Apple says to do. Just quick press it, as though you were pasting something.

My problem is that it forgets BlueTooth syncs, so I have to resync my keyboard every time. Annoying.

Isn't this just the normal shortcut key combination for Sleep or am I missing something here?

my favorite sleep feature is holding down the play button on my apple remote. best for sleeping when i am front rowing and ready to sleep, or sleeping any time.

probably one of the most useful features of the remote, but i will definately use this more often.

I didn't know about that one, but it makes sense as it's the same way you sleep an iPod.

Actually, interestingly enough, this "quick sleep" feature can indeed be useful for you powerbook owners. As a previous pbook owner with a very small room, the snoring light was a minor bother. Apple's little secret - use the keyboard shortcut to put the 'book to sleep, and the snoring light snores about 50% dimmer - noticeably different in a dark room.

Worked like a charm on my 1.5Ghz 15" powerbook.
