My iMac is 21.5 late 2012 and in the Environmental Report
it states that at idle display off power consumption is 14.1W
and with the display on (full brightness) 41.8W
and I remember checking and it was true,
at one point (I don't remember exactly after which macOS) it was even lower but now
(I actually noticed it a while ago, not sure if since Catalina or could be before)
it's about 21W at idle display off and about 50W with the display on, so it's 50! and 20% increase.

Anyone else noticed their mac power consumption increased at idle over the years?
Here are environmental reports
https://www.apple.com/environment/

I liked how they used to state the power consumption at idle with the display off and on at full brightness,
now they don't even report at display off and on I don't think it's at full brightness,
"Display brightness was set as defined by ENERGY STAR Program Requirements for Computers" which is just "150 cd/m2 for Integrated Desktop Computers" https://www.energystar.gov/sites/de...rsion 8.0 Specification - Rev. April 2020.pdf
I usually have my iMac at full brightness.
