Difference between 6750M - 6770M?

Hey,

After i finish this schoolyear, i'm buying myself an iMac 21.5''.
I'm going to use it for regular use, MS Word, browsing, watching movies and gaming. I'm not a hardcore gamer but playing games like Portal 2, Guild Wars and some shooters on high is a plus. Im not buying the 27'' because its just too big.

So, is there a noticable difference between the 6750M and the 6770M?

6770M is the same chip, but clocked faster. So it is a faster GPU (obviously.) You probably won't see a huge difference in frame rate (core clock increase is fairly minor.)

VRAM is the same on both (512MB, both GDDR5)
The shaders and TMU count on both is the same.
As such, the 6770M will be, at most, 20.83% faster (theoretical max, but most likely not.)

So just overclock it and you basically have a 6770m? If so, that makes the base iMac the best bang for your buck for the 2011 line-up I think.

Unless you want a 1TB HDD and the option to get a Core i7..

Except that External HD with Thunderbolt will be cheap and plentiful in a year and Core i7 provides little improvement for most tasks.

I have to agree that the basemodel at $1200 is best bang for buck. I went 27" this weekend, but I have a big desk and to put it on and wanted the 6970M GPU.

But if I were a student on a student budget or a recent graduate, I wouldn't even consider a $2000 machine when such a great $1200 set up is available.
