My gf just bought me an 27 inch Imac on Thursday. The person she purchased it from at apple said it was the newest version that came out two days ago. I'm not too familiar with Macs (this is my first Mac computer), but I wanted to compare the old version to the new version and make sure she was fooled since she told the guy she really didn't know much about Macs and it was a gift. I'm assuming there are some changes where I can compare against the box.

If you go to About This Mac in the top left hand corner a small window will open up.
Next to processor, the 2009 i7 will say "2.8 GHz Intel Core i7" while the new 2010 i7 will say "2.93 GHz Intel Core i7".

If she bought it at the Apple Store, its the new one. They dont stock the old ones anymore.

Open System Profiler, model identifier should say

iMac11,3
Intel Core i5
2.8 GHz

bla bla, compared it on the tech spec on apple.com and voila.

It says Intel Core i3 3.2GHz Model Identifier is 11,3 ????
