Well im considering buying a refurbished macbook off of the apple store site sometime this month hopefully..I have been reading all the other topics about others buying refurbs and other various issues people have with their macbooks...anway my real question here is it worth it just get the 2.0ghz model over the 1.8 model? i mean they are only $50 apart in price....how much of a speed difference between the 2 are there...would the 2.0ghz be more realiable. just looking for feedback from other buyers and current mac books owners....
Here is the way I would look at it. First, the $50 would be worth it to move up to the 2.0GHz machine but there is more to it than that. Refurbs are sold as the base configuration. For example, if Joe Blow buys a MacBook from Apple upgraded with a 100GB HD and 2GB of RAM but then returns it, it gets sold as a refurb with a 60GB HD and 512MB of RAM (or whatever the base specs were). With that in mind, which computer is more likely to have been upgraded? I would say the 2.0GHz model and it wouldn't even be close. People who buy the stock machine are much more likely to be concerned with total cost than someone who would upgrade to the 2.0GHz CPU.
So, like I said, to me the faster CPU alone is worth the $50 but the greater chance to receive more than what I bargained for is worth much more. Case in point, I convinced a coworker to buy a MacBook after her Dell laptop died. We decided on the 2.0GHz MacBook. She got her machine in perfect condition and lo and behold, it had an 80GB HD and 1GB of RAM.
