Well I've joined the club of the cracked up Macbook, but my cracks aren't forming in the usual places. I'll do my best to describe them.

Both of the cracks are on the bottom case. The first one runs along the back edge and runs parallel to the vent. It hasn't cracked all the way through the plastic, but I would assume it will eventually.

The second crack, if you could call it that, has appeared under the printing on the bottom case. It actually looks more like a puncture than a crack. It looks as if something is starting to punch through the plastic from the inside. Having never opened up a Macbook, I don't know whether it's a screw, or possibly a larger solder joint that's making the puncture, but something is. If I had to guess, I'd say heat might be what's causing this one.

I've never dropped my Macbook. Hell I've never even set it down hard. So, these cracks are a surprise to me. I'm not really complaining about it, as I don't think anything will be done to remedy my problem. I'm not going to call Applecare, because I know they'll just tell me that I damaged it. I guess all I can really do is live with it.

Owners of white Macbooks might want to flip their machines over and see if there are any strange cracks forming on their's.

Here's an automator action which compresses image files for web delivery using Photoshop or Preview.

It's not about compression. It's that it's impossible to even get a shot of the cracks. I don't have a good enough camera to take the extreme closeup necessary to show these cracks and puncture.

I'm sure anyone who's tried to take these kinds of pictures of iBooks and Macbooks, with inferior equipment, knows what I'm talking about.

You could turn the flash off, and put your digital still camera on a tripod or other stabilizer. Aim a desk lamp at the subject. Adjust exposure if you can. Hopefully autofocus will work. I hope this helps.

I've tried everything. My camera just isn't good enough to pull off these pictures. Sorry.

try moving backwards and take the picture. Be more than 1 meter away from the object. Most Point and Shot cameras cannot focus one objects which are to close.

I understand that pictures would help this thread, but they aren't going to happen.

Why does everyone assume that they know my crappy equipment better than me?

It's hard enough to get a good, descriptive, picture of a Macbook/iBook with good equipment. It's impossible with bad equipment.

Who knows plastic casing should not mysteriously crack by itself ? if it has been treated as you say. Maybe you blocked the vents and made some real serious heat on the bottom and below the vent.

I'm chalking this up in the **** happens category. It doesn't make me happy, but I can't say I care all that much.

I guess if something starts to punch through, I'll be complaining. As it stands, it's not that big of a deal, to me. I was really just pointing this out to see of I'm alone with this issue. So far, it looks like I am.

You can try Applecare. I find that going to a store will get your farther than arguing on a phone but that's just my personal experience!

I'm pretty abusive with my Macbook, no cracks or punctures here... *knocks wood*

The nearest Apple store to me is three hours away, so that's not really an option. Besides, like I said, I don't really care that much. Really, it gives me an excuse to switch it out with a black case down the road.
