If you go to crucial's store, and search for ssd's and memory you see that there are different part numbers for the m4 256 ssd for the 2.3 and a different one for the 2.6 model. Same goes for memory.

Is there any real difference between them?
ie optimized for the 2.3 so the 2.3 part number will actually work better with the 2.3 or is it something you wont see any benefit from?

Nobody knows. If you buy "memory for a 2.6 GHz MBP", then they will sell you memory that is guaranteed to work on a 2.6 GHz MBP. And if you buy "memory for a 2.3 GHz MBP", then they will sell you memory that is guaranteed to work on a 2.3 GHz MBP. They might be the same memory. They might be different chips that both work in each Mac, they might be different chips that don't work in the wrong Mac. Very unlikely that anything is "optimised" for a particular Mac.

Of course "guaranteed to work" is quite a good benefit.

When I was in the process of ordering the same RAM from Crucial I asked them about the part numbers. Crucial replied that the RAM is identical and the numbers are different because of Crucial's inventory system.

It is confusing and Crucial should make it clear that the RAM is the same. Better yet, they should just hide the part numbers because customers don't need to see them when ordering RAM.

I have been using 16GB of Crucial RAM in my 2.3GHz Mini for over a month without a hitch.
