Different proxies assigned to different wireless networks?

My school uses a web proxy to get on the internet, which i have to configure myself, but at home we don't have a proxy so i have to turn it off again to use the internet at home.

Is there any way I can assign the set of proxy settings to be used only when i am connected to the school network? Thanks!

Proxy configs and network settings are not linked in any way. The only thing I can think of is if your school uses an auto config URL, then you can use that. When home, your system shouldn't find the proxy URL, and should just go direct for everything.

Use "Locations" to set different proxies.

I think you are looking for the built in feature "locations". Open Network Preferences, add a location, like "school", "home", etc.

For each location you can configure a different proxy, ip configuration, etc.

You can even trigger commands when the location changes:

If that works as advertised, that's a cool OS X feature. I'll have to see if Ubuntu 8.10 has that.
