Different view on the ipad maybe? maybe you like now yes?

As it seems popular at the moment i thought i would throw in my opinion about the ipad, and who knows, might change some opinions about it.

People are saying that it is a big ipod touch, well yes it is but i think that might be the idea.
Flip things round for awhile, what if the ipad had been out for a few years and jobs just introed the touch now.
People would be furious, "how will i surf the net on that tiny screen!" "its so much slower than an ipad!" "no 3g option WTF?!?!" no one would want it. people would be love using that big touch screen, fast processor and big screen apps and hate the every thing about the ipod touch.

Back to reality, i think people are going to see how frustrating surfing on a 3.5 inch screen is and how the speed of apples chip makes a big difference.
Thats why i am willing to let the ipad have a chance
lets be honest, surfing the net on an ipod touch is a less than enriching experience, i think the ipad, simply because of the bigger screen will give a much better browsing experience (staying well away from the flash argument! ((flash is pants anyway!!!)) and of course you get extras like newly specially made full screen ipad apps, books store, iwork etc.

Dont get me wrong, IF i get one of these i will have a dam good look at it 1st and give it my own inspection before going to buy it, it will have to pass my rigorous testing program.

Mah...don't think so. People would:
1- Think that it's neither revolutionary nor magical, as it's just a scaled-something of stuff they've already seen.
2- Think that it's a fantastic technical achievement, as it's way harder to put same functions in a smaller tech device than the opposite way around.
3- Think that it could be a very useful product, as it would allow them to do on the go stuff that it was not previously possible (having the real internet at your fingertips, apps, etc.).

The ipad unfortunately is a different story, as it simply does the very same exact stuff you can do on your iphone/ipods or laptop/desktop, only in slightly different ways (better or worse, depending on cases). But with endless compromises (portability, power, etc.). Some will like it, some others not. This is certainly down to personal preferences, but i think that it's quite objective to say that what we have been shown is not a leap forward like the iphone was for example (which yes, like everything in this world was imperfect, but brought on earth a revolutionary way to interact with machines).

Yes, I think Apple is not considering the iPad as part of the Mac line-up but rather, as an oversized iPod touch which can run iWork, making it also a portable book reader, web surfer and work editor on the go. Too bad it can't make calls despite having 3G.

While I have a MBP and will be ordering a iPad, I don't find my 3GS's screen frustrating to surf the net on.

As far as I'm aware Apple have only done one event, and one web ad, on their site, to promote the iPad. The rest of the hype was created by the press.

Iphone was the 1st step of innovation

The Ipad is the extension of the innovating Iphone!! The iPhone had people's jaws dropped into the core of the earth! The Ipad is a timid extension, but given how the tablet form factor is hard, it is great!! From face value, it is not so impressive, but once we have it, I am sure we'll enjoy it!!

Day 1 I hated it.

Then I realized all the amazing apps that could exist for iPad. I can't miss out on that action. As a developer myself, I see insane potential. And I believe people will develop for it.

I am flip-flopping on which one to get, but 3G 32GB seems likely for me.

Ipad is a branch from the ipod touch tree! Or you can say it's an offspring of sort. In 2 to 3 years, it will be far different from the iphone or ipod touch line. In fact, it is already different in presentation. Obviously, the note application, mail, etc. are different from the mini versions. They got the pop over menues plus dual screen in landscape view, etc. These are small differences. Bigger difference for now is the hardware: processor speed for one. So, in 2 to 3 years, who knows how far they will diverge!!!

I don't disagree that some are b*tching about it - but this is a message board - so really - what do you expect.

On the flip side- anyone, it seems, who doesn't consider the iPad a jesus device is being written off as not getting it or bitching or being a hater.

People need to accept the fact that every device is not for every person. That doesn't make them a hater anymore than anyone who likes the iPad is immediately a "fanboy"

I think the iphone and the touch were test runs. I would rather have the Ipad then the Kindle. If I had a Kindle right now that thing would be plastered all over CraigsL for sure. The Kindle never Kindled me anyway. I never felt all warm and fuzzy inside by looking at grey scale media.-my preferences

I think that it is defiantly evolutionary for the most part and the marketing plan by apple fell flat on its face. I was so underwhelmed after watching the keynote (minus iwork) that I thought. "its for the elderly with vision problems" It was not until I looked at the foundation put forth by the iphone and touch that I began to grasp that the product itself very well thought out and for that matter a mandatory step in touch tech evolution. With all of the dev work that occurred with these devices it was almost imperative that apple innovate and expand the screen space. I could see the iphone busting at the seams with ideas that would only become a plausible reality when the screen size was increased.

First off I agree 100% with your view of how it would be viewed if released before the iPod. Makes perfect sense to me, but then again "common sense" is clearly what's missing in the MR forum so... anyhow.

As to your rigorous testing program? This sounds like like a statement made by a car company about running their cares into walls Are you going to toss it off a building or blend it or... poor iPad

1. use as a chopping bored.
2. use as a sled.
3. use as a plate
4. email
5. if i run it hot enough will it iron my clothes?

i cant go into any more detail you'll understand but i feel if it does well in these tests i will 100% get one.

Not everyone needs a Mac Pro. But some do.

If the itouch came out after the ipad, I think it'll still be as popular ad it is today....
Most people like having an iPod that has a full touch interface. What's not to like... ? Either way, some people will like the new ipad, some won't....
If I had the extra cash to burn for something cool to be at home I would invest, but I don't have the money to.

Personally, I think if the ipad had a better name, it would sell more...

I'm on the fence about wanting one, but I can see the awesome possibilities.

My top problem is buying this for Internet use and then getting yet another charge from AT&T. Honestly, is anybody going to use this AND an iPhone at the same time? Considering how much income we're throwing at AT&T for the iPhones, a little bone would be nice for something like this. If you were able to pop the SIM card out of your iPhone and straight into your iPad, then I would be rushing to the front of the line. But considering the iPad is one of two devices in the US to use the micro SIM, we know that won't happen.

I will probably end up with one, but I'm not sure. I want an e-reader, but what happens to my Kindle books? I have about 10 of them that I paid for. I honestly didn't believe that Apple would get into selling books. It would REALLY be nice for the e-reader market to stabilize and be as user-friendly as the digital music market now. I buy music from iTunes, it works in iTunes. I buy from Amazon, it works in iTunes. I buy a CD and rip, it works in iTunes.

The book publishers are going to go down the same stupid path the music industry did for who knows how many years before my above scenario finally unfolds. Sure, allow for special features that are device-specific. But there will be no e-book competition outside of devices with the current setup.

After all that ranting, I'm not feeling good about getting an iPad when they come out. Maybe I'll put that money toward a new TV. They have these crazy new TVs that play signals from Dish Network, a Wii, and a Blu-ray player. INSANITY!

I expect we'll be able to read them on the iPad using the Kindle app for the iPhone. I also think it highly likely that Amazon will come up with an enhanced-for-iPad version of the Kindle app.
