So, I'm sitting in the airport here in Fort Myers (RSW), we have a brand new terminal. Figured I'd fire up the new MacBook just to see if there was a wireless network. Of course Do most airports today have wireless broadband? Anyways, heading to Dallas for a family reunion - should be fun. Oh, and my hotel has wireless broadband too. Doesn't hurt to have a way to check in to MR every now and then eh?! I'm totally loving this new MacBook and how easy it is to stay connected.

Same here, I loved using the wifi in my MacBook Pro when I was on vacation in Miami (beginning of the month). It was wonderful to be able to get online almost anywhere that I went.

Most airports now do. Jacksonville International (for free), Fort Lauderdale (for free), Albany, New York International, Dulles I think has it, Washington-Baltimore (for free), etc.

Tampa International recently added wireless for free as well. I had my computer with me last time I was there, but a Mini without a monitor doesn't help out all that much..

I think the whole world has Wi-Fi Even in South Africa you can pick up a free Wi-Fi hotspot almost anywhere

When using public wireless, keep in mind anyone in range can see your data, including usernames and passwords when transmitted in the clear.

Hopefully, your provider supports TLS/SSL for email, port 995 for POP, 993 for IMAP, and 465 for SMTP (outgoing).

If you use FTP, use TLS/SSL for FTP ports 989 and 990. Otherwise, someone can grab your username and password and use your FTP/web site.

Rather than telnet, use ssh, and as an alternative to ftp, scp or sftp.

If you don't want others reading your chats, get Adium (for Macs) and GAIM (for PC owners you'll chat with) and use Off-the-Record (OTR) encryption on both ends when chatting.

And never log into a web site of any significance (like one you'll use for purchasing) unless you see the little lock icon and https:// on the URL.
