I have a CMP 2010. I also have it's spiritual ancestor, the mighty Quadra 950. I'm trying to either resurrect this beast or at least preserve the contents of the pile of scsi drives that came with it. I need some way to get the Mac Pro to read from these old drives before I try booting the quadra just in case. Is there a scsi card for a CMP? Is there a cheap adapter to sata? Is this an insane fools errand?

I believe any generic SCSI to USB interface will do, but you're going to need a 50-pin adapter for your drives. Alternatively you could file share your Quadra with MacOS over ethernet.

I don’t have the answer but I’m in the same situation as you.
I own a bunch of old computers and one of then require some back up data (macintosh classic)

I have a G3 blue white version with a SCSI pci card but I never managed to get it work.

Happy to hear what kind of solution are available with our MP

If you really need that data and are willing to spend some money for it you could get a RATOC SCSI to USB2 or the SCSI to Firewire400 converter.on eBay. They are a bit pricey now and the speed will be a bit slow but they get the job done.

I would favor the network approach, assuming you have a recent enough Mac OS installed on the Quadra to support connecting to AFP shares over ethernet. If this isn't feasible for some reason, then the other advice in this thread is solid.

Is there a reason you're hesitant to start up the machine? The likelihood of older equipment suddenly bursting into flame when you apply power to it is really quite small!
