I'm fine with the analog clock, but when I'm sleeping at night and I glance at the clock, I prefer to have a digital one. Is there any way to get a digital clock to display in Standby Mode? Do I have to download a third party clock app. with a digital clock widget, to do this?

You can swipe up/down to cycle through different clocks, most of them are digital.

All I see are analog clocks.

Edit:
Ah never mind. I didn't realize you could swipe left from the first screen to get to different clocks. Thanks!

Edit 2:
Is there no way other than a third party widget to get a digital clock on that first screen of Standby Mode (where it will let you select two items to show side-by-side)?

I'm looking for a digital clock for that first page which can have two widgets.

I haven't found one like that.

I was hoping that this could replace the clock apps that I use on an iPad mini 2 and an iPad 2. These both run clock programs in the App store and they display the time 24 hours a day. I have one in the living room and one in my office. I like things dark and the clock helps people to avoid tripping if they're walking around in the dark.

I also have my iPhone 7+ that displays the weather all the time. I could probably retire that if I had Standby working where it displays data all the time.

I'm rather bummed at the limitations and bugginess of this feature.

Well that first page that can display two widgets; any widget can be used. That's why I've been trying different clock apps. to see if any have a widget clock that I like. Almost all have been usable on that first page as either the first or second widget.

Ok so after trying a bunch of different clock apps. I think I've found one I like:

Been honest this std by mode is absolutely a gimmick, maybe works better if you have the pro phones ect, but for users like my self where screen goes blank after 30sec or so and only way to bring it back up is to tap the screen is waste of time, I was looking forward to this as I wake up before my alarm and always like to see what time it is, could have just the phone on nice wireless stand and be able to view what time it’s is ect, I think the only way to get proper std by screen is only one way, I’m having love hate relationship with apple over the last few years 😁

Yeah it's great if you have a Pro. with always-on screen.

Even the AOD phones don't display stand by mode continuously. Although, apparently the front sensor is still active because movement is still detected and wakes the display. It's not necessary to touch the display.

Not *quite* as good as always displaying a clock, but still useful.

How do you delete the second row of widgets? I‘d like to have a single digital clock in Night Mode (if the 3rd party World Clock widgets allows that).
Wonder how do you get that fancy colourful digital clock widget shown in many MR articles.

Swipe left.

I've only used the Standby Mode once - was in a hotel for a night - and it was ok. However, I want the alarm time to show and so far I've not found any "half size" widget that shows that an alarm is set.

By half-size I mean on the first page where you have two widgets side by side, just as the OP wanted.

As an aside, I've replicated an always-on-display on my iPhone 11. I've not tried it overnight, so don't know if it times out after an hour or so, but it seems to work: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...so.2403228/page-2?post=32556962#post-32556962

Bumping this to mention that the beta for iOS 17.2 has a digital clock widget, which means you can use it in StandBy when you're also using another widget.

Try tapping the table instead. At work, my 15 constantly comes on when I'm typing away.
