I have a 24" iMac. I picked up a toslink optical cable with adapter today from the apple store and used it to connect my iMac to my Marantz 5.1 receiver.

The cable connected fine. I'm getting a red light out of the end of the cable when it is connected to the iMac. My receiver is picking up the signal but the resulting sound is horrible...crackling and dropping in and out.

I don't think it is a problem with the receiver...anyone hear of this or come accross this?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Oops ... should have given myself a bit more time to figure it out.

I'll tell you what the problem was just in case some other user has the same issue and does a search in these forums.

I went into the midi setup and selected properties for "Built in Output". It then lets you make adjustments to the digital output...

I left the format at 44100 hz but changed the other setting to encoded digital audio...and it works fine now.

Thanks
