Hi guyz, I'm really in a dilemma.

I was planning on buying an iMac 20" with 2 gb ram for work at home. I do a lot of Photoshop, Flash and some 3D.

Next month I going to start working @ a webdesign company. I'm thinking about buying a MacBook Pro to be able to take my work with me anywhere. (plus my emails, that's important to me)
At work they want to buy a Mac Mini for me + a Dell 24" screen.

I do really want the iMac, because of its big screen, Apple keyboard and mouse you get with it, and that it's a lot cheaper. Plus that I think a desktop is more powerful than a laptop. But synchronising between 2 computers is something I don't like.

I was wondering if the MBP is powerful enough and suitable for 'workstation' work. Would you think that the iMac and the MacBook pro are equally powerful, if both have the same specs, both 7200 rpm? I know the harddisk is smaller, so that may be the only drawback.

Can you guys help me out?

I'd argue that the current MacBook Pro and iMac are roughly the same in terms of performance at the moment. However, remember that Photoshop is still run in Rosetta. Can you wait until it is released as a Universal Binary before buying the machine? What machine are you currently using? :)

I have a PC with AMD 2700 with 1 gig ram, Radeon 9500. 3 years old. So it will be a huge improvement for me, even in Rosetta.

Whatever you do, don't let them buy a mac mini for you. With 64 MB integrated graphics any Rosetta using app will go DOWN if you use it intensively enough.
Go Pro all the way and increase RAM to 2 GB. Whats wrong with getting a 17" MBP and a 24" Dell display?

I see, MacMini no go for me... I was planning on buying a MacBook Pro 15" with 2 gb ram, after a lot of consideration. Because I want to carry my files and settings with me every day, this factor is too important for me I think.
I will get a 24" at work anyway.

But I'm really wondering if this MBP (lets say I take the 7200 rpm drive) if going to handle a whole days work comparing to the iMac desktop... I suppose they are the same performance, with the difference that the MPB maybe gets hot easier? I'd not like to hear the fan rotate like crazy all the time... Laptops are originally designed for mobile work right? But I guess it should be more than ok.
