Has anyone seen the screens side by side? I am on an M1 MBA and decided that way due to not really liking the touch bar and having no fans which sounds like a godsend to me. I do however want the best screen and the 400 vs 500 nits is making me wonder if I should get the Pro.

Lisa Gade on Mobile Tech Review on youtube says there is increased contrast as well as brightness on the MBP and I haven’t heard any other reviewers say that. However due to the non-linear progression of nits and human perception of brightness, 500 nits doesn’t appear 20% brighter than 400 nits.
I do have a 16” MBP I am going to sell and to me side by side there is very little difference other than size of course between the screen on that and the Air.

Anyone had both that can comment?

I’ve heard it a couple times about the contrast ratio so I believe that’s true

but I would like to see a side by side as well. Still on the fence

I think the Air is good enough and pretty much identical to my 16” which I’ve sold now. At some point in the next couple of years mini-LED is likely to arrive and I’ll almost definitely want it. So I’m going to stick with the air for now and not spend a load on a pro.

I picked up a base MBA with the thought of replacing a 2018 13" MBP (4TB ports). I had the same question so I put both side by side in a bright sun-lit room with the brightness on both turned up all the way. True Tone on. I honestly couldn't appreciate a difference in brightness between the two. From a general use perspective, both displays look great to my eye and the slightly worse specs on paper wouldn't be a reason to spend the extra $$ to upgrade to a Pro.

Now the speaker quality on the other hand....I can appreciate a difference between the two.
