Disable external monitor?

Is there a way to disable the external monitor? I don't want to have to unplug it every time I want to disable it... There must be a way. What options do we have?

SwitchResX lets you disable it but it's shareware. I used it for a while but the issue is that the iMac's screen goes blue everytime I open my TV etc so I just ended up unplugging it after use

how did you get that program to work? i downloaded the demo, but couldn't find the option to disable the monitor anywhere.

In its preferences, there is Menus section, go there and enable "disable/enable display" box
