After some goofing around I've got my 2011 Mac Mini set up with a DVI monitor on the DisplayPort and my 720p TV on the HDMI port as the second display. I'm very happy with this configuration, except...
Is there any way to disable the HDMI port, or disable the second display when not in use? (Short of pulling the HDMI cable out of the back of the Mac of course.) I turned the TV off but that doesn't seem to make any difference as the Mac still thinks it's connected. I don't see anything in the settings that will let me disable the second display. It's not a huge deal, but sometimes my mouse pointer runs off the right side of the screen and gets lost. That, plus I have to go into the settings and change the sound output to the headphone jack to hear sound when the TV's off or playing something else (like cable TV).
If there's no way to disable the second monitor, is there a quick/easy way to switch sound output between HDMI and the headphone jack? Something that sits in the menu bar or a hot key perhaps? Or (even better) is there a way to configure sound output on a per-program basis, so I can have the DVD Player output via HDMI and everything else output to the headphone jack?
