Although notifications are super helpful for texts (google voice), twitter and facebook, I don't want the actual text from the notifications to show.

For example, if I get a DM from a friend saying "hello", I just want the notification to show "DM from (friend)".

Is this possible without jailbreaking?

Go to settings for notifications. You can determine the amount of information and hiw it is displayed from there.

All u have to do is go to Settings>Notifications>Messages(or whatever it is) and turn off Show Preview. It'll show u have a message and who its from in the notification, just not what it says. Of course some apps, such as AIM for instance, u have to go into the settings in the app itself to disable the preview.
