Probably a strange question, but I'm fed up of people walking past my new iMac in the office and pushing the power button then jokingly saying "Oooh bad design that, who puts a power button the back of a computer?"

Anyway of disabling it?

My advice...
Use a 9-volt battery, transformer, bare wire, and creat a shocking experience for anyone that touches the button. When they ask just tell them iMac's come standard with self defense systems and they have been identified as a douche bag.

How about one of those cigar cutters over the button, attached to a pneumatic ram, wire the release to the power button. They do get to push the button, but the second time they push it, its with a stump!

Ok, maybe I am over thinking this, but what if I wasn't.... ;)

Talk to your supervisor about assaults on your personal property. That's inexcusable and inhuman. Not even the children at my local elementary school do that and their computer labs are nothing but iMacs of that design.

LOL

People like to do this with my MacBook... I need to put super glue on the button.

Those people are azzholes. Maybe you could put something over the button, but I don't think you can disable it. :(

You should figure out how to rig the button, though. If someone presses the button while the machine is on, they get shocked and they're finger will be covered with hot glue. Maybe that's going to far but that's very childish and stupid.

Huh?

People do that? Seriously? I would have a fit if someone did that to my computer.

Do these same people reach over and turn your car off when driving?

ROFL... Me too. I have a fit if anyone touches my mouse or keyboard, let alone power button. I hope that the engineers who design cars won't ever put an immediate off feature in a car because I can see some of my friends doing just that. :D

Why does it matter if it's on the back? What, they're only being a$$holes if they press the button when it's on the front? Ridiculous.

If someone started doing that to me, I would hide their keyboard or mouse or both when they went to the bathroom.

Or better yet, just rip out all of their cords (keyboard, mouse, monitor, ethernet, speakers, etc.) when they aren't looking and say "Oooh bad design that, who uses that many cords?"

I like this one.

bad day at the office.

or you could just pull one of THESE moves on them... i like the guy going over the desk move the best!

i would get one of those portable air horn can things and blast them when they got close. ;)

The guy going over the desk is hilarious. I love how no one in the room hangs up the phone when they start fighting.

A few of these look pretty staged, but still hilarious.

UNCheck the "allow power button to sleep the computer" button in Energy Saver. (This will prompt you when the button is pressed.)

Or move it so that it's against a wall or your desk.

Or go lean over them and push their power buttons. Who puts the power button on the front of the computer, anyway?

Or beat the ever loving crap out of them.
