Is it possible to disable elements of the Mac that I rarely use in order to improve performance? I personally have no use whatsoever for the Speech functionality... is it possible to remove it? Would disabling it improve performance?

Thanks!

Cliff.

If you aren't actively using it, speech is already disabled.

Don't confuse having the functionality available (the files on the hard drive) with that feature being active. If you don't use something there is no performance hit as the process is not actively running.

try these links, there are others which tell you what is running in the background and what you can do about it. Sometimes even if the difference isn't that noticeable one gets a certain amount of satisfaction from just farting around with the goodies. And keep an eye on your activity monitor, some 3rd party apps do have a way of surreptitiously insinuating themselves into the system... cheers.
