iPod Disabled iPod won't restore

I am trying to restore my friends iPod touch. He accidentally disabled the iPod and then all of a sudden forgot the password (he's pretty clumsy) when I try to restore it, everything goes fine until it verifies with apple. Then it says the iPod is not eligible for the requested build. I am getting the restore files through iTunes and it shoots me down each time. The iPod is a 8gb 2nd generation. Any help would be appreciated, thank you :)
