Does anyone know of a way to disable one of the memory slots, on my Early 2009 Mac Pro? I have four DIMMS installed, but occasionally I'd like to disable the fourth slot, to take advantage of the better three channel performance. Is there any way of toggling this, on and off? Thanks.

There is not, it's all hardwired and part of the chipset. In nearly every case the difference is miniscule enough to not be noticed. RAM is already really fast (on the order of 8.5-10.7GB/s with a single channel.) unless you are transferring a heck of a lot more than that, the noticeable impact will be zero. The only time you really see the difference is in benchmarks, which don't necessarily transfer to actual experience.

Thanks alust2013. That's interesting. It's very difficult to find any "real world" information on the subject that isn't theoretical/benchmarked. I'm running a lot of hungry applications so I think I'll stick with what I've got. Cheers : )
