Hey everyone,

Wondering if anyone else is having this issue. I have a few PDF’s that I have to constantly re-add to iBooks. The two I’ve noticed the behavior with are both free eBooks that I got when they were on promos (two separate companies at separate times). I can save them in Files without issue, and when they vanish from iBooks, if I reopen them from Files they remember the page I left off on etc as if they metadata is still there, they just aren’t showing up on the list of available books. Anyone else having any issues with PDF’s and iBooks?

Thanks,

Shawn

I have experienced the same thing and so far the solution to vanishing PDFs has been to not use the Share and Open in iBooks method, but rather to drag the PDF files from Files to iBooks. Once I’ve done that they have no longer vanished.

Also, if you turn on iCloud for iBooks, it will keep all PDF’s and 3rd party EPUBs in the cloud. All you’d have to do then, is open iBooks and tap the cloud icon on your PDF/book cover. Much easier than constantly re-importing them every time.

Already using the iCloud pdf sync, all other PDFs appear on all devices as expected except these two. I’ll try the drag into Files trick!

That’s a strange one. I use it more for non Apple purchased ePubs. Sorry to have given you non-helpful info. Hope you find a fix, or get a software update for it.

Yes, same problem here. I noticed this already for some months. The ibooks are available from the Mac, but for strange reason they disappear on iPad. Very annoying. It helps to completely reinstall iBooks. But it is not a permanent solution.

Btw: I have many GB of free memory on my iPad.

My wife lost all her PDFs kept in iBook.. cloud and local. She was in NYC for investor meetings and she had them all stored in iBooks. I tried to get her to move them. Nothing brought them back. She had to have an assistant re-send/save them all.

No problem, any help is worth the shot! And yeah, my primary use in non Apple purchased books, most often in PDF format. The only consistent factor I’ve noticed is that these two were both books I got on “48 hour free” deals. I actually just opened iBooks, it started to show the book, and then went to the library without the book there. Went to Files, opened in iBooks and it was right at the page I left off at. Any other pdf, even those from....less legitimate sources are fine. Only time I’ve had it happen are with these two specific ones, at least so far.

To the poster who said they had noticed that if they dragged from Files to iBooks the issue didn’t seem to occur, can you explain a little as to what you mean? Haven’t completely figured out some of the new iOS 11 iPad stuff.

Thanks!
[doublepost=1512956994][/doublepost]Figured out the dragging and dropping bit. Let’s see if they stay put.

Just an update: the dragging from files trick has seemingly resolved the issue. Weird that those aren’t doing the same thing behind the scenes.

That’s good to hear! I don’t know what got me to try it originally, but it worked great for me.
