Disappearing programs?

OK, I know I'm not crazy. However, I also know I have downloaded Adium twice, Burn twice, and Transmission 3 times. Several times now I have went to use one of these programs, only to find that they are no longer available on my machine? What the heck is going on? I downloaded Burn about 3 weeks ago, now it's nowhere to be found...am I losing my mind here?

if it's on your HD spotlight will find it...

I know this...but where are the programs going? I have installed them, and used them. When I go to use them again they're gone....

There's only one thing that comes to my mind, but it is not very likely:
You made a guest account and are using it anytime you log into your system.
Login under a guest account means you cannot save anything, all documents and installed programs will be gone when you logout /restart the computer.

Are you copying them out of the DMG and into your Applications folder, or are you running them from inside the DMG?

If you are running them from inside the DMG and the DMG becomes unmounted then you wont see the App again until you mount the DMG.
