I have a 21.5" iMac bought in November 2009. I am having a strange happening with it. I have just been using Mail, clicked on the red button at the top left to quit, but the mail window just kept disappearing all but about 3mm off the screen to the top and top left and not quitting. I have also had this happen when using Safari, occasionally if I click on a link on the page to another open another page Safari disappears off the top and top left except for about 3mm.
Help please.

What happens if you press the green button while holding down the CMD or Option/Alt key?

It should restore the window position.

Btw., the red circle closes windows/documents, but not the application, unless the application only uses one window like iPhoto or System Preferences or Dictionary.

Can you make a screen shot via CMD+SHIFT+4 to show us?

Also have a look at the following links, as the information presented there might be helpful in your future endeavours into Mac OS X and could clear up initial confusion and may even prevent harm to your system or your files.

Thanks for your reply.

Yes the green button does restore the window position.

I do realise that the red button only closes the window, but, the window does not seem to be closing completely. This seems to be an intermittant problem. I have just used Firefox & Safari with no problem this time. However I have just checked for software updates, non required, then clicked on "quit" and the window just disappeared off the top of the screen all but about 3mm of it, I then eventually got rid of the window and tried again, this time the window disappeared completely.
I thank you for the links to support but they do not seem to show my problem. Whilst I admit to only recently migrating from windows I am fairly okay with the imac after spending many hours since purchase on it. However I admit to not being able to show you a screen shot, as I am not sure how to show you a screen shot. When I press shift+command+4 I am taken to "youtube" so not sure how to get from there.

I gave you the links for further learning Mac OS X and the keyboard shortcuts link to learn shortcuts.

To make a screenshot you can also use Applications / Utilities / Grab (or use Spotlight to look for Grab).

I really do appreciate your assistance, if I get the disappearing window again I will do a screenshot and post it. It is just possibel I amy have found the problem, I have deleted "magic prefs" and at the moment the problem is not happening, although I have lost the left/right swipe with my magic mouse.:(

I should add I have been studying Mac OS X Leopard, The missing manual.
