As much as I loved the keynote, the visual, the music, the new M1 chip and the "updated Macs" - I can't help but feel disappointed that they didn't take this transaction to redesign the Macs (all - but specially what I wanted was redesigned MacBook Pro).

I really wanted to purchase a new MacBook Pro but now I think my 2016 MBP will last another year.

IMO it was the way it was so that it was minimum risk (and meet the date commitment). Change the motherboard and little else. Innovative stuff will be next year onwards.

You'll likely have to wait until 2022.

This is out of the same playbook as the last transition: they'll introduce new chips in same form factor gradually over 2 years. Then after 2 years, a redesign came, along with much better processors.

It also makes sense since TSMC won't get to 3nm until around the 2nd half of 2022. So Apple may wait for the first 3nm silicon to introduce along with a redesign.
