I subscribed to Apple Arcade last week and I was looking forward to it. It is supposed to be a platform to offer quality games for a fixed subscription price, which would allow us to finally get rid of the freemium model which require increasing and never-ending payments to keep playing.

I tried more than 20 games so far. I played Rayman Mini, Sonic Racing, Punch Planet, Way of the Turtle, Shantae, Agent Intercept, Super Impossible Road, Frogger, Possessions, Exit the Gungeon, Cat Quest II, Pilgrims, Cricket Through the Ages, Speed Demons, Tint, and others.

All the games seem to have some quality control, and most of them are polished and offer good graphics and decent controls. I understand that the library is big and there may be some hidden gems there. However, I am unimpressed so far.

None of the games that I tried seemed to be addictive or kept my attention for long. Many of them had long introductions, with dialogs that were supposed to introduce me to a story and increase the feeling of depth. But I found them boring and not interesting at all. Then came tutorials, to teach me how use simple controls to play the game. In all the games I tried, the gameplay itself is not something out of this world, and none of them seem to be a winner to me.

All the times that I tried a game on Apple Arcade, I found myself switching to another one. I end up playing Super Mario Kart Tour, which is a freemium game, but offers a superior experience and is far more interesting. The controls are better, the characters and cars can be upgraded, and it is much funnier and more addictive overall. It seems to me a far, far superior game to everything which is available on Apple Arcade.

I was thinking that paying $5 for a monthly subscription of Super Mario Kart Tour was a rip-off, very expensive when compared to paying the same price for the whole Apple Arcade experience. But you know what? I may end up subscribing to Super Mario Kart Tour and dropping the Apple Arcade subscription.

So, I am so far disappointed at Apple Arcade. It just seems boring. I have not yet found a game in its comprehensive library that is good and addictive and could be a hit. Anyone had the same impression? Is there any game I am missing which could be worth playing? What are your favorites?

I agree. I will not be subscribing when my trial ends. None of the games I have tried so far have grabbed me. I think they're just not made for someone like me, more for the casual player. I like to sink hours into a good game.

But then I guess the casual player is a much bigger market and that's what Apple is going for.

Well, I am kind of a casual gamer. But I still think that the Apple Arcade games I played so far are so unpretentious that they became uninteresting. I mean, they check all the boxes, and they are all quality games, but they do not seem to have the guts to become real hits. They are not selling themselves.

I'd pay $5 a month just to play Pinball Wizard lol; I find myself playing that a few times a day - Mini Motorways is pretty great too. A few of the others seem just too involved - I want to try them but feel like I won't have enough time to get started and learn or to try and pay attention to a story.

I have a M1 MBA now and the text on the scores for Pinball Wizard don't show up (can't see scores). Also can you believe the scores that show up in the Daily Dungeon? I have scored as high as 26 million but that is nothing compared to the scores on the Daily Dungeon with some scores over a billion.

I don’t know the game Daily Dungeon. But I know from plenty of other games ridiculously high score tables are often the result of exploits.

YES! This is a great game. Easily worth $5 a month.

Cards of Darkness is a lot of fun, but very tough after awhile.

What the Golf is hilarious.

Some people devote their lives to games. They get the huge scores. It must take hours to score a billion points in Pinball Wizard.

The Daily Dungeon is a different layout daily for the Pinball Wizard not a different game. You may be right that it is some sort of exploit.
