I'm disappointed in the wireless charging. I have a positively rated (154 positive reviews on Amazon) Qi fast wireless charger with a 2.4a adapter and I'm not getting anywhere near the functionality of other wireless charging phones I've used. This is on a X.

In the morning going to work I have waze on and 3/4 brightness and notice while wirelessly charging the battery is still going down slowly. 30-40 minutes and I'm down to 90%, which is much better than not having a charger at all, but I'm used to seeing the battery go up, not down. If I turn the brightness down to 50% then the charger keeps pace with the consumption and the battery doesn't go up or down. Going home at night the brightness is very low and the battery slowly, very slowly charges up.

I don't believe the X has "fast" wireless charging, but I'm not sure if that's the case, or if they are saving it for the release of their own charging pad. I'm wondering if I'm doing anything wrong, or maybe I should double check that my charger isn't faulty. Anyone else?

Wireless fast charging Apple say is coming soon but not timetable. Wouldn’t surprised me if it is when the new pad comes out.

I’m using the Mophie one To charge mine right now and it’s up to 21% in half an hour

How would having the screen stay on at 75% brightness affect that charging time?

As far as I know the wireless charging is a software update. I can’t wait either. I bought the Samsung fast charger and i like it. Not the fastest but I like it.

Yeah I look at wireless charging as a convenience... nothing more. It's nice to get home from work and drop it on the charger while I shower and get some dinner... it's usually full in a few hours.

When I fall asleep on the couch having forgotten to plug the phone in and I wake up having to leave the house for work in 45 mins and the 8 Plus is at 15%... it gets the lightning cable.

Shouldn’t matter.

I mean the Mophie one I think is a 5w charging cable. It’s faster than I expected considering it’s not fast charge yet.

I would think having the screen off, or on would affect the charging time.

Another related question for you all, if it's in a cradle wirelessly charging, will plugging in the lighting cable damage anything? I may have to supplement with the lightning cable, but would hate to have to unplug my wireless dock every time I did that.

Oh the screen on yeah it will have an impact thought you meant brightness in general.

Yeah that wouldn’t be ideal you want to just keep it with the cable connected

To clarify, you are wireless charging the phone in your car while driving? Is the wireless charging pad plugged into a USB port in your car?

The screen is a major power user, so much it is using more power than your wireless charge can supply.

Wireless charging will always be slower than plugging it in. I just drop mine on the wireless charger each night bfore going to bed and never worry about it.

I don't really think about it too much. I toss it on at night or at my office and I haven't had battery issues. I am not sure we can expect a certain amount of charge in a certain amount of time from Apple on a non-Apple product.

I haven't even given it any consideration yet. Figured when it's really effective, I'll start hearing about, until then, I'm OK with a good 'ol cable (in fact, just got two Anker Powerline+ in red :D)

I'm really not interested in wireless charging yet. I see the convenient side of things as others have mentioned. But I would rather much use a lightning cable and a 10 Watt iPad charger to charge it quicker. The only thing that remotely has my interest is the AirPower in 2018.

I don't care for wireless charging unless it's faster than a cord. At my desk what's difficult about plugging in the phone? I use an Anker charger and it charges my iPhones at a rate of about 1-2% a minute. I go from 20% to 80% in around 20-25 minutes.

If wireless charging takes hours - no thanks.

OP should be cautious on leaving Waze on too much, it’s not optimized and having the static black software bezels is going to eventually lead to burn in issues (especially at 75% brightness). To add to that — Apple has explicitly said they will not cover burn-in issues in warranty.

I have used Waze everyday for over two years. My iPhone screens have zero issues. Not sure what you're referring to. I drive over 15,000 a year.

Really? Good to know, although I can't live without my waze every day. I've used it this way before on android oled phones before and have never had any burn in issues. In fact I have yet to see any burn in on any screen I've used, I'm not sure how prevalent it is.

To be clear, Qi charging on the iPhone X is a max of 5W performance right now. You can get even less than that if using low-quality power adapters, or through poor placement on the charger, or if using it while charging.

Eventually, an update will bring it to 7.5W, but best practices still apply.

Regardless, I don't care about the speed of wireless charging at all, because it is 100% about convenience and not about matching and exceeding all of the benefits of wired charging.

It's mostly prevelant in areas of static black, like if you left Waze on for a couple hours a day you'd probably notice something like this

https://cdn57.androidauthority.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/aa-imgur-galaxy-s8-burn-in-840x473.jpg

(there's a reason samsung hides these static areas by default now!)

My GS8 experienced this after a week of use on the top and bottom (where the nav bar and status bar are). This has actually been an issue on every OLED phone I've owned, some you have to look a little harder but as the phones age it becomes more and more prevalent.

Apple really shouldn't have made the fake bezels black, I know it'd be super fugly otherwise, but I'd wager in a couple weeks we're going to start noticing people complaining about bezel burn in.

This is a unique issue to an OLED iphone running an unoptimized app with inches worth of turned off pixels padding the top and bottom.

I'm not saying this applies to your charger but you should ALWAYS check reviews on Amazon - www.fakespot.com I was ready to pull the trigger on something the other day but checked Fakespot first. They rated the reviews an F and probably saved me some money and aggravation.

Got the Samsung fast charger and it works fine. I am retired so I spend a lot of time at home. Easy to put it on the charger anytime, so I don't let phone run down.

That's scary, I'll have to be careful. I use it for about 30 min in the morning continuously, and about 45-60 minutes in the evening continuously, and maybe an occasional/rare longer trip.

Wow awesome website, thanks! This is the charger I'm using https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01JRTHAE8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Fakespot says 78.8% of 154 reviews are legit.

I let my X wirelessly charge overnight and I believe it takes around 3-4 hours total (not for sure), but I'm fine with that. No fumbling around with cables in the dark when I go to sleep and wake up.

Yeah, just to close off what I was saying, anybody interested in what I was saying should research AMOLED Luminence degregation. It's simply a problem of the screen not being to display as brightly after use, and as you could immagine, if there's parts of the screen in which the pixels are not uniformly degrading, it makes some pixels shine brighter than others. It's not really color burn in per-se, but a brightness degregation that has had it's uniformity stunted.

The contrast to this, in LCD is the fact that there is a dedicated backlight that controls the luminence, so it's much less of an issue.

if static black in waze would cause burn in.... then probably never ever watch a movie with black frames around it like anything "non-zoomed" in on the iPhone X....
