Is anyone else disappointed with the lack of app updates that are customized for the 11" ipad - particularly those with Video and others that you might use in landscape mode? I find many of the TV apps are not updates to handle the larger screen size and it really bugs me. I'm hoping the trend is not just to leave it with the same software as the old 10.5".

That is frustrating for sure. It also tells you which developer takes the iPad seriously and who doesn’t. Have you contacted the developers in question and provided feedback already? Next step is App Store reviews.

Yeah, i have a few apps that haven’t been updated. Not glaringly bad. Certainly not annoying enough to make me hate my 11” if thats what you mean. Totally lovin’ this thing. Besides, i am sure most of those apps will be updated in time.

I agree with your frustration. Frustrates me too, however this is well documented as it happened with many apps when Apple changed screen sizes in the past. Many of the “big” software companies are the slowest. All the Google apps including YouTube. Even Facebook has been very slow in the past. Frustrating yes, but completely normal to those that have lived through other screen size changes.

There’s a long thread here on MR that documents the apps that still need updating and when they update. It’s a good read if you have the time.

I actually thought that the situation is worse when reading through the forums. Now having the iPad, I am actually positively surprised that all the main apps I use are updated... i have fairly basic needs though.

To be fair to app developers, apple constantly changing screen sizes of apple products does not make it easy for developers. This is why a lot prefer subscription models to compensate them for the hassle of having to put in the work to accommodate various screen sizes. .

Realistically though, if the apps are built sensibly (using AutoLayout etc.) updating to support these new devices should be absolutely trivial. I still have video apps that don’t support the original iPad Pro from 2015, which is laughable. I don’t think there is any excuse, especially when these apps are receiving regular updates and support.

I agree with you. It amazes me that some of the much smaller (company wise) apps I use for study and research, like OliveTree, updated to the new 12.9 screen size within a week of release. Yet some of the huge companies haven’t updated. I, like you, had apps on my 2015 12.9 that never updated to the screeen size even with consistent bug updates. Doesn’t make sense to me, but admittedly I’m not a developer.
