Disc Drive Won't Eject

Hi All... I looked around the forums, but couldn't find an answer to my particular question.

I just upgraded to El Capitan the other day, and before I did, it gave me the option to download the new OS X onto my SSD, which I had been trying to do for some time with Mavericks, but always had an issue (sorry if this noobish).... Anyway, I downloaded EC onto the SSD, so obviously all my programs and plugins have to be reinstalled.

My issue is I can't get the disc drive to open without force ejecting it, and I have a ton of CDs to install. When I try to select "eject" from the finder menu, it remains grayed out.

Does anyone know why this might be, or if there's any easier way to reinstall my programs onto the SSD?

Again, sorry for being a total noob when it comes to this.

Am I correct in assuming that you have installed the El Capitan Operating System onto an external (SSD) drive? I'm not sure why you would want to do this.
When you say "I can't get the disc drive to open without force ejecting it" which disk drive are you referring to?
Where are you getting the "programs and plugins" from to load onto your SSD and why are you using CD's anyway?
Maybe it's a terminology problem but i can't make heads or tails of your post.
A "Drive" can be an SSD (Solid State Drive) a HDD (Hard Disk Drive) or even a CD Drive ( the tray you put a CD or DVD into to load onto a computer) but you need to distinguish.

Thanks for the reply, Rodan52. Sorry for not being explicit enough, this is my first time on the board.

I actually have the SSD installed internally. I had done this awhile ago when I still had Yosemite, but was never able to select the SSD to boot from for some reason.

The drive I'm talking about not ejecting is the CD drive. The eject button that was on the upper righthand corner of the screen in Yosemite has disappeared, and when I go to select "eject" from the finder menu, it's grayed out.
