Disc reading problems with cd2 mbp

I've jus had my new duo core2 mbp 15" a week and im having problems installing certain programs, or mainly certain discs.

I keep all my discs in a protective sleeves, and ive used them on my old g4 with no problems.
Its only certain one though, like my wacom driver and certain sound bank discs for reason.

Creative suite and studio 8 have all installed no problem.

Are mbp drives really fussy or have i got a duff machine?

I've only had it week so it should be covered, right?

What happens when you put the disc in? Are the installers for apps that can run on Intel machines?

The typical thing that happens is, I put the disc in and you hear it start to spin and then it starts to slow down til its sound like its hardly working. When i check the force quit box, it says intaller not responding.
The drive then makes a sound llike a really loud jamming noise and I have to restart.

Its really strange because the first time that i installed the wacom driver, i had no problems, but after i wwipe thhe machine with the restored discs and went to install it again, it started playing up.
And now the same thing is happening with one of the three reason install discs.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with this problem. My C2D does the exact thing you describe, only i don't get the loud jamming noise. I do, however, get a scratching sound that speeds up as the drive speeds up. It only happens with certain disks for me as well. I think I've come to the conclusion that it does this with discs that have labels on them. I have only had problems with discs from my school that have a security label attached. Although the label is super thin, I think our superdrives are too thin for the labels. If it is happening with normal discs, I would take it back for sure and they'll fix it.

I have heard though that some software CD's have given some people trouble. Let me know if it's just certain discs.

The funny thing is, my copied discs all work ok, Reason i actually bought so its a proper install disc.
I've got in touch will the mac retailer i bought ithe machine from, and they are going to have a look at it, he said that it cud be dirty discs, but when i mentioned the jamming sound he thought the drive cud be faulty.
Ill find out later today, so il keep you posted.
