I was playing around with my iP5, looking for a way to hide/delete a few of the stock apps I never use (really, have not used all the way back to the iPhone2G!).

I downloaded POOF and proceeded to hide those apps. POOF also allows you to hide the app itself. I did so.

Upon a respring I was brought back to screens that showed the apps hidden.
So far, so good!

On a hunch I went into Cydia and deleted ilibhide along with POOF. The app/tweak was now gone. The hidden apps also forever gone.

I tried this method on an iPhone5c with 7.0.4 loaded and although POOF worked as expected, a hard reset brought back the hidden icons.

So, at the end of this I learned, if you want to permanently delete certain stock apps and you're on a 7.1 beta this would be one way to go.

I'd imagine a fresh restore would bring it all back, but in my case, as the beta is no longer signed, I am 'stuck' with the missing apps no longer available as I wish to keep my jailbreak.

What's happening is that Poof is detecting it is running on a version of iOS that libhide does not support and switches to its legacy hiding method. The legacy method was used from iOS 3 to about iOS 4.1 when libhide was created. It works by adding the app bundle's identifier to iOS parental controls list to prevent access to it. This method was phased out in favor of libhide because over time or by adding too many to the list, Springboard gets very slow. The process to reverse it is to reset your homescreen icon layout via Settings.

One of the apps hidden is f.lux. I enjoy using the tweak- one of the primary reasons I jailbreak in fact- but didn't need the icon provided to always be on my screen once the app is set.
It is now permanently gone.

I did reset-home-screen-layout and all remains.
I also got rid of the mail app, as I don't use that feature at all on my iPhone.

Maybe the homescreen layout isn't the thing to reset as I thought it was, but it isn't permanently gone. It will return after a few weeks of use, as happens with Poof's legacy mode.
