just switched a few things around. removed the zip drive since the B&W case didnt have the front piece for it. installed a superdrive. used a 64mb 9000pro agp adc/dvi video card from a mdd. 2 80gb HDDs. i used MDD clear handles and the sides and transfered the apple logo the new sides to get rid of the frosted look.

i just purchased a 5 port PCI USB 2.0 card so that will go in later this week. want to install a better video card and max out the ram to 2gb. and possibly do a little over clock too.

well i got my pci usb card in. i also upgraded to 2gb of ram. i'm selling 2 agp 64mb video cards to buy a better one. preferably a 256mb version. i got another sawtooth but it's only a 450 and i'm practicing OC'ing on that since i've never done that before and i don't want to mess up my 500dp.

i'll see what else i can do with this. will post of interior pics soon

here's some updated pics with the insides

just want to buy one of those artic cooling vga coolers for my video card and maybe get a pci ide controller or maybe a sata controller and get some faster hard drives.

Ah, thats exactly how I have my Blue G3, except with Sawtooth sides and handles.

Sweetness.

Its a simple mod, except getting those damned Apples off. God, that was a pain in my ass.

The frosted side panels I ended up breaking to free em. Oh well, they were cracking and scuffed to hell anyhoo.

yeah it was kinda a pita but i used a hair dryer to heat up the glue and used 2 razors to pry underneath little by little. i love the look of the clear QS/MDD handles so much more.

it's the one in my sig. i need to locate a floppy disk so i can make a dos startup disk so i can flash it to work on my mac. works great though in my other computer

ok first off, i fried my 256mb 9800 pro but luckily a 128mb version along with a arctic vga cooler will soon take it's place.

to help with cooling i added 2 60mm? fans which i cut out the bottom metal and covered it with a 120mm grille from the interior fan of a MDD. i wired them into the 5v side of the molex connector, it was orginally a connector for a larger fan and was hooked up to the 12v side.i took the side panel off and cut out the metal where the main fan was pulling air into the machine. now that won't clog up with dust anymore... but will just blow all the dust inside now :D aren't i smrt. this baby is still pretty quiet too! i also placed a bottle cap on the inside center and one towards the bottom to allow more air to flow in. here are the pics...

here is where you can see the 2 bottle caps spacing the side panel a little more open.

next to come, maybe i'll add a white LED to the front top apple logo...

Looking at these pics makes me wanna throw away all my porn :D!!! Nice set up you have there! how long has it taken you to do this?

ok the first sentence... i don't know how to take that and it scares me. and the latter, thanks. i think it was back in august or so is when i got a bunch of g4 towers and started selling them for parts to fund this one for all the upgrades(and pay rent hahaha) it's what got me into macs all together and i'm now hooked. it didn't really take long to do everything, guess just reading around and pondering what i want to do next is more time consuming :p

ok i got yet another ati 9800 pro and i just got flashing it over to mac. strange that it says it's a 256mb card in the system profiler although it's really is a 128mb.... but that's for another day.

now i just need to pick up one of those arctic vga silencers. anyone have one for sale/trade? but since i added the fans, it's been running fine and no panic attacks so i guess it's running so much cooler now.

G4 in g3 case

Hi i have bought a sawtooth motherboard and G4 Processor in the hope of modding my g3powerac bandw similar to what has been done on this page, is anyone aware of any problem in using the 20 pin psu that comes with the g3, from what i have read there does not seem to be an issue.

also i dont have a front board panel for the g4 10pin output i have read up on making one but if anybody knows where i may get one from, reasonably priced that would be a help.

I remember this from very long ago :D. It was actually the Gigabit Ethernet model and I just swapped all the plastic side panels and the green apples from my B&W G3. It's still the G4 case though, I think I remember having troubles trying to mod the G4 internals into the G3 case so that's why it was easier to just swap the external case plastics. I think I heard the same that the G3 PSU will be fine with the Graphite G4s.

Try and google search it. I've seen the 10 pin pinouts around for people that mod PCs into the G4s and want to use the G4's power button board.

Thanks and good luck with your transformation.

Question? Why the bottle caps? If it is just to make the machine appear more "round" why don't you use something else? I just found it interesting, I am not bashing it in any way. :)
