It’s beyond me why anyone would buy a Mac with less than 500GB. I mean for iOS 128-256GB is great. Even 64GB is enough for most. But for a Mac do they even sell machines with less than 500gb these days? My old Mac shipped with a 500 GB spinner which I upgraded to a SSD. My 2020 Mac has 1 TB.

my macbook has 256gb. i have music on it, photos, and lots of documents... and have 170gb available.

it depends a lot on what you use your mac for, what you store on it.

Lol, I've managed for 6 years or more with a 256GB SSD and used it for upwards of 40 installs of various OSes and currently dual boot Catalina and Big Sur.
It all depends on what you want from it :)
