After my imac froze, I had to do a hard reboot. When I restarted the computer, it just sits on the gray logo screen with the spinning dial.
Then I tried rebooting with the install disk to run disk utility but after I had chosen my hard drive, it hangs up.

What else can I try?

Thanks in advance.

Tried it

I have tried all the suggested ways of fixing this issue via apple support page.

Then I would say your drive is hosed. =(

You will either need to invest in some more powerful disk repair software, such as Data Rescue or maybe Disk Warrior -- or if you dont want to spend the $100 on that, try to reformat the drive and restore it from your backup drive.

I probably wouldnt trust the internal 100% anymore, but as long as you have a good backup you are fine. Internal needs replacement after something like this IMHO.
