After opening disk utility it says to select disk, volume or image. the only options in the box on the left is Macintosh HD and a series of numbers-698.6GBST3750640AS. Do I repair disk permissions on one or the other or both. Can you explain what these numbers represent. I can't seem to find any answer in the help section. thanks.

Macintosh HD is where OS X is installed, and the numbers represent the hard drive model. I would do repair disk permissions on Macintosh HD.
