For the past few days I’ve been looking for a way to reset my MacBook Air and I thought it would be simple and so I looked it up and I forgot to backup but I didn’t think it mattered so I deleted my old Macintosh HD in disk utility and then tried to reinstall MacOS but it keeps giving the “Could not create a preboot volume for AFPS Install”. Please Help I’m stuck with this on disk utility everything seems messed up.

It’s like this but on mine it says Unmounted for the Macintosh HD

Well, if there's nothing left on the drive...

1. Reboot to internet recovery:
a. Power down, ALL THE WAY OFF and connect the battery charger.
b. Press the power on button
c. IMMEDIATELY hold down the command, option and R keys and KEEP HOLDING THEM DOWN. You may need to enter the password so internet recovery can log on through your router.

2. Do you get to internet recovery? If so, open Disk Utility, then...
a. In the upper left, is there a popup menu with the choice "show all devices"? THAT'S "the choice you want".
b. You should see your SSD "APPLE SSD SM02" ?
c. Click the Erase button. Does it offer you the option to erase?
d. If so, choose Mac OS extended with journaling enabled, GUID partition format.
d. Does it erase? If so, click the "first aid" button and run it on the drive.
e. Do you get "a good report"? If so, close DU and open the OS installer

3. RE-install the OS:
a. It will take some time and may involve one or more reboots "mid-process".
b. Again, give it a little time.
c. If things go well, and you get to the setup screen, do setup.

Good list, but I would add details to 2. b. : Click on the APPLE SSE SM02... line, so that is selected (NOT the Macintosh HD line) --- THEN click the Erase button.
