AirSharing is a good free one. DataCase is another decent one but it costs.

I know for a fact AirSharing and DataCase cannot e-mail files, nor edit them. These are two very overrated and practically obsolete apps. As for editing excel docs, Mobile Files Pro can do this, but not edit word docs yet. And this app does not say in the description that it can e-mail these files (just wirelessly transfer them to your desktop via WiFi or placing themon MobileMe).

There are plenty of apps that can edit documents, but usually only txt files, not doc files (yet). I personally like iStorage. You can download, wirelessly transfer or produce new documents de novo, edit them or store them, and then e-mail them or upload them to web as you please. No excel support though.

I pains me that we are still waiting for an app that can do it all these functions. The iPhone is sort of like owning a barebones car with no radio, no headlights, no seats in it, no heater, but drives very smoothly. We then have to go out and buy a portable radio, tape flashlights on the front of the car for headlights, buy seats for it, and place a space heater in it so its practical to use. Shame on Apple for not including such an app natively. I guess Street View, Stocks app, and YouTube were more important.

Excellent i will look into that.
I agree that basic functions especially for the business minded, should be supported if they want to get into the corporate world.

if you have MobileMe iDisk or similar service, you can get the app called OneDisk which can access the files you uploaded to iDisk directly and email them as attachements. It's loaded with features but it doesn't provide a way to edit files however (at least not yet).

Do the other phones on the market allow you to store, edit and email your Word and Excel documents?

Windows mobile phones do at least, and I'd assume Blackberry's have some sort of app to do it also.

Here's a hint about the Blackberry's editing ability:

And here are the versions for every other smartphone imaginable:

Still waiting for the iPhone version though...and waiting...and waiting...

And I am sure there are other types of editors on the market too, documents to go just happens to be one of the more popular ones.

So it sounds like it's just a matter of waiting for DocumentsToGo to finish their iPhone version.
