Hello,

I would like to know if the DiskWarrior Recovery Maker will overwrite files on the original DiskWarrior 5.0 USB flash drive when making a bootable DiskWarrior 5.0 on a blank flash drive to use with my new iMac SSD running Yosemite 10.10.1. There's been some confusion about this. The instructions that came with Diskwarrior 5.0 does not mention this little detail. I would like to know before I attempt to make a bootable flash drive only to find out later that files on the original DiskWarrior 5.0 USB flash drive were overwritten.

I sent them a similar question; I wanted to know if I could make a backup of the thumbdrive. I don't wanna pay for DW if the thumbdrive is the ONLY instance of DW I am allowed to own. That would seem rather lame.

Alsoft doesn't offer a trial version of DiskWarrior.

Alsoft got back to me; the DW5 thumbdrive includes a utility to make a startup emergency drive on another thumbdrive, so one really doesn't need to copy the thumbdrive you buy. Makes sense; that way you get something that runs your system.

That would seem to indicate that nothing will be overwritten. Perhaps you could try write protecting the thumbdrive and see what happens?

I did a Get Info using Disk Utility and discovered that the DiskWarrior 5.0 USB flash drive is read/write instead of read-only.
