Dismissing a text?

So I haven't been able to figure this out. How can you dismiss a text from the lockscreen and have it clear the badge from the icon? I don't see a mark as read option like when I receive a email. The only way I've seen that works is to force touch and pull up the conservation and then close it. There must be a easier way?

Doesn't seem to clear the badge from the app or dismiss from Apple Watch that way as it did in iOS 9

Definitely does for me, at least on iMessage anyway

Clearing never took care of the badge for me, both on iOS 9 and 10 I just go into Quick Reply then dismiss it to mark a text as read.

I'm pretty certain that if you don't at least Peek the Messages notification, it doesn't count as being "read". This is not new either.
