Display And HDMI Switcher

So, I ran a twenty-five feet HDMI cable from the Mac Mini to the HDMI switcher and turned on the HTPC...all was well...until I switch to TV. Well, screen share would lock up on the MacBook Pro. Reconnection attempts failed and will not reconnect again till I select the Mac Mini through the HDMI switcher. The HTPC plan is not working seamlessly.



I was wondering whether a software such as SwitchResX help on the Mac Mini! I want to be able select the AppleTV, AndroidTV, Regular TV, and the Mac Mini on the HDMI switcher, and be able to control the Mac Mini screen on my MacBook Pro without loosing connection.

What switch are you using? Wonder if its doing some termination of the unused inputs that is screwing with the mini.

I have my Dell Laptop and Mac Mini 2012 hooked-up to one monitor through a IBIS HDMI Switch made by SEWELL which I bought off Amazon. I also bought a couple of new Amazon HDMI cables and It works great!

Yes, I think you're correct in describing the event as a termination of the unused input...wondering what's the solution. Mine, is a five port Mini HDMI amplifier Switcher that I bought on Ebay...I also already had the three port switcher of the same brand. I have four devices connected to it, including the Mac Mini. The switcher has HDCP passthrough as well as powered.

Please, can anyone make suggestion(s)?

From my reading in a Windows forum on my above problem is to enable the disabling of auto- monitor detection on the Mac Mini; so that when I switch to another input, the Mac Mini "thinks" it still have a monitor and continue to share screen with my MacBook Pro. Can anyone help!

Just run anything from the Mini. No need for AppleTV or AndroidTV IMO. And doesn't your actual screen have more than one input?

I use an Led 1080p projector and a home theater receiver which connect via HDMI switcher, an AppleTV, an Android Smart TV, a Digital TV Box, and my HTPC - Mac Mini. The problem I am having is when I switch to the Mac Mini, then back the other devices, the Mac Mini won't connect to screen sharing on my MacBook Pro.

So it seems deploying something such as a terminal command to stop the Mac Mini from auto-detect monitor in order to have the hDMI cable stay plugged in the Mac Mini, creating an on-demand monitor.

You need something with EDID management/emulation so even if the Mac mini isn't the active computer, the switch is still telling it what device is connected. These switchers are more expensive than the cheap pass through switches.

Thank you for responding with favorable answer. Do you know of a brand I should be looking for? I guess a five port one would be even more expensive!
